Although Ontario possesses the lowest crime rate in all of Canada; violent crime is not unheard of here. In 2006, there were 756 reported crimes of violence in Ontario. 56 of those were sexual assaults. Do not let the small number fool you; sexual assault is referred to as the least reported crime of violence.
Statistics Canada reported in 1993 that nearly one-half of surveyed women had experience some form of sexual or violent assault in their lifetime. The need for widespread women's self-defense training is obvious.
Toronto Fightclub, aware of these statistics, offers hands-on self-defense training to women interested in learning how to defend themselves. Many Toronto gyms conduct women-only self-defense classes.
Toronto Fightclub takes a different tact. The vast majority of sexual and violent assaults committed against women are by men-boyfriends and family members. It is wise, then, for women to train against male attackers.
Our self-defense training sessions are co-ed. However, they are not for that reason too rough or uncaring. We foster an immersive, enabling atmosphere for both men and women. Together we learn how to stay calm during an attack, move out of danger, and-if need be-counter with devastating precision. Toronto Fightclub teaches women's self-defense as it needs to be.
